Verrazzano Day 2014
490th anniversary of Giovanni da Verrazzano’s entry into what is now New York Bay. For this reason, the traditional Verrazzano Day celebration took on a particularly important meaning.
The Foundation supported, with its participation, an event of both celebratory and cultural character held outside its “own walls.” In collaboration with the Gondi family and historian Marco Calafati, a series of conferences was organized, starting from the commentary on several texts provided by the Gondi family and other documents preserved in the Historical Archive of the Foundation.
On this occasion, the publication “Gondi – A Florentine Dynasty and Its Palace” was presented.
The event was hosted inside Palazzo Gondi, and representatives of local administrations as well as a delegation from the American state of Delaware—twinned with the town of Greve in Chianti—were invited to participate.
Afterwards, the guests were welcomed inside the Castle and guided to discover the historic sites linked to the Verrazzano family.
