The Verrazzano Historical Studies Center has been continuously active in collecting and enhancing various references to the Navigator.

From 1964 to 1979, two variants of the 5,000 lire banknote engraved by Trento Cionini were issued. They depict the explorer Christopher Columbus and a fifteenth-century map drawn by Paolo Dal Pozzo Toscanelli. The second variant, issued in 1971, features in its watermark a three-quarter portrait of Giovanni da Verrazzano, replacing that of Galileo.
